Brain & Nerve Health
Your Brain & Nervous System:
The Master Control System of the entire body.
The brain is the single most important organ in your body, so ensuring your nerve & brain health is vital. All functions of the human body rely on and are controlled by the brain and nervous system. Other systems like the Digestive and the Hormone systems have a direct influence on the brain and nervous system as well.
How Dr. Ryan Helps The Brain & Nerves:
The fundamental difference of brain and spine “specialists” like Dr. Ryan compared to neurologist that help people with the brain, spinal cord and nerves.

Also working with clients to maintain spine health by assessing the health of the spinal discs and nerves through nervoscope assessments, spinal X-Ray’s and MRI’s, Dr. Ryan has worked with Neurologist like Dr. Michael Sethna, a Harvard Educated Neurologist, with Migraine patients, Multiple Sclerosis patients and severe neck and back pain cases.
Dr. Ryan also helps people with brain and nerve system health by looking at information from Functional Medicine Labs like the GI MAP that is a Poop/Stool sample which is a comprehensive microbiome testing 100+ different bad and good bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungus/yeast, worms, and many other digestive health markers. The DUTCH Test that is a Urine sample test and Saliva sample test, as well as Comprehensive Blood Work and from these types of tests he will review the results with you thoroughly, and what they indicate is going on in your body and help determine the best strategies to unlock and restore your health and vitality naturally through means of herbal or nutritional supplementation, whole-foods, lifestyle and bio-hacks. “A neurologist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. Neurological diseases and conditions can affect nearly every part of your body and affect both adults and children.” An excerpt from the Clevland Clinic website.
Common Symptoms & Struggles Related to Brain & Nerve Health:
Scientists have determined that there are over 45 miles of nerves in our bodies that carry messages back and forth from the brain to every area of our body.
Symptoms are endless, but some of the most common are headaches, loss of feeling, tingling or numbness, weakness or loss of muscle strength, loss of sight or double vision, memory loss, anxiety and depression, ADHD and ADD, cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s, MS, Parkinsons, Lack of coordination, seizures and paralysis.
The domino effect the Brain and Nerve System have on other Systems in your body:
The brain controls every system in our body through the nerves aka nervous system, and we all have three different categories or “types” of nerves.
The first type is called “sensory” nerves, and these nerves control things like sight, smell, taste, and touch.
The second type is called “autonomic” nerves, and these nerves control all our automatic functions in the body including all the internal organ functions like your heart beating, blood pressure, digestion, and temperature regulation.
The third type is called “motor” nerves, and these nerves control all our muscles and ability to move our bodies. For you to wiggle a finger or move any part of your body, you rely on your brain to send an impulse message through a motor nerve to your finger or any other body part for it to move.
“Fight-or-Flight” - The Sympathetic Nervous System:
The category or network of nerves responsible for your “fight-or-flight” response is called your sympathetic nervous system. This response activates your body to increase heart rate, your ability to breathe, improve your eyesight, and slow down other things like your digestion.
If you are speeding while driving and you see a police office, your will feel a sympathetic response in your heart rate. Same as if you’re going for a hike and you see a wild bear growling next to you. Or playing an intense game of hockey.
This part of our nervous system is extremely helpful in certain situations, however not helpful if you are STUCK in FIGHT-OR-FLIGHT every minute of every day. This is called “SYMPATHETIC DOMINANCE” and can cause all kinds of anxiety, fear, panic, worry, insomnia, constipation, ect…
“Rest & Digest” - The Parasympathetic Nervous System:
The category or network of nerves responsible for your “rest and digest” response is called your parasympathetic nervous system. This response activates your body to slow down and lower its heart rate, slow down your breathing, conserve energy to be used later, recover and help regulate normal bowel movements.
When we are on vacation or resting outside listening to the bird’s chirp with no worries or anxieties, we are in “parasympathy” and it is a wonderful relaxing feeling.
This part of your nervous system is extremely helpful in activating our recovery process, sleeping, digestion and creative growth. We heal and grow best when we rest and digest.
Being able to stimulate parasympathetic when you need to is extremely powerful for your health.
